My name’s Nick Morgan, but online I’m generally known as Skilldrick (don’t ask me where it comes from, I have no idea, except that I was about 12 at the time).

I currently work as a backend engineer at Airbnb, working with awesome people and building cool services.

Priort to that, I worked at Twitter for 11 years, first on the web team and then on the backend Tweet service team, eventually becoming tech lead of that team. I was fired by Elon Musk for “violating company policy”, but my lawyers say I shouldn’t talk about that so 🤐

In the past I was a huge fan of dynamically typed languages. After learning Haskell and Scala I realized that I was more into functional statically typed languages. Today I mostly write Java but I’m learning Rust on the side.

I haven’t yet found a replacement to Twitter, but I have accounts on Threads, Bluesky, and Mastodon.

I also really like to make music. I’ve put most of my music on SoundCloud.

I live in Colorado with my wife, two kids, three cats, and one dog.
